Collectiv/eyes is the primary home for projects, collaborations and experiments by Guelph based media & multidisciplinary artist and arts professional, Karen Kew.
Karen was born in South Africa and immigrated to Canada in 1989 where she attended York University in Toronto, Canada and received a BFA Honours Degree in Visual Arts. Karen’s single channel video work includes experimental documentary and narrative, animation, and personal essay. The works examine the interconnections between culture, identity, representation and internalisation, within and at the backdrop of coloniality. Her work is distributed through V-tape and has screened at numerous festivals, galleries and is in collections at a number of Canadian Universities and arts centres.
In her work as an arts professional and non-profit leader, she has developed core competencies in strategic fund development, social enterprise development and financial management, leading initiatives that emphasize growth, humane workplaces, and long-term financial sustainability. She currently serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for Art Not Shame, a community engaged arts organization in Guelph.
